Support increases from industrial sectors relating to innovative LED technology

News

Starting with initially five members in autumn 2016, the number of alliance members supporting ISELED has reached 22 companies . The spectrum ranges from semiconductor manufacturers and lighting/design specialists to major Tier 1 automotive suppliers. This covers the entire value chain in order to establish ISELED as a standard solution – in future also beyond the confines of the automotive industry.

“Lighting in vehicles is increasingly becoming an important design element but will in future also take on functional tasks. In conjunction with displays, light is becoming an integral part of innovative visualization concepts especially with regard to highly automated and autonomous driving,” said Robert Kraus, CEO of Inova Semiconductors.

“ISELED is pursuing this high dynamism in the lighting sector. In future, the possibilities will go far beyond interior lighting, for which ISELED was originally conceived. The close cooperation with the alliance partners in particular makes it possible for us to realize a dynamic display backlight with ISELED, which one editor spontaneously called an “OLED killer”. We are working on the first systems for outdoor lighting – including car-human communication – and are currently introducing an ISELED-based fieldbus, the ICN (ISELED Communication Network), which will in future not only connect lighting elements but also sensors and actuators,” continues Kraus.

The broad spectrum of the new alliance members will give a further boost to ISELED’s already strong momentum: in addition to LED manufacturers such as Brightek from Taiwan or ITSWELL from Korea, Allegro MicroSystems from the USA – manufacturer of power and sensor semiconductors, the Bamberg-based company UG-System for test systems and iSYS RTS from Munich for software development joined the alliance. Lightworks from Holzkirchen and feno from Oberhaching – both located in the Munich area – specialize in lighting design and the development of the corresponding electronics support ISELED. The company novem from Vorbach (Bavaria), which sees itself as a world market leader for high-quality trim parts and decorative functional elements in vehicle interiors, is also a new member of the ISELED alliance. Likewise, the globally operating Prettl group from Pfullingen (Baden Württemberg), which offers the complete package of sophisticated, high-quality lighting and plastic modules/systems for vehicle interiors and exteriors.

The ISELED Alliance is also very pleased that with Hella and Grupo Antolin, two further leading automotive suppliers for the lighting sector are enriching the ISELED ecosystem. Stephan Fritsch, Head of Electronics Development at Hella Innenleuchten-Systeme GmbH commented: “Limited space is one of the main challenges for automotive interior light design. The highly integrated ISELED technology provides us with completely new opportunities to realize innovative lighting solutions. So we are really delighted to be part of the alliance.“

“ISELED technology enables us to equip the vehicle interiors we develop and manufacture with even better lighting solutions,” said Markus Daubner, Technical Director Ambient Lighting of Grupo Antolin. “The technical combination of LED and microcontroller is very exciting for us, and that’s why we’re getting involved in the first series applications.”

About the ISELED Alliance

The ISELED Alliance is an open industrial alliance with the objective of developing a comprehensive ecosystem – i.e. a complete system solution for innovative automotive lighting – based on ISELED technology. The alliance was founded in autumn 2016 and presented for the first time together with ISELED technology on 8 November 2016 at electronica in Munich.
