CDS offers transportation system designers stretched and ultra-wide displays

Crystal Display Systems (CDS) expands stretched display solutions for transportation applications with EN50551 certification. Ultra-wide, high-brightness and bespoke display technologies offer greater flexibility for rail, bus, airport and specialist transport systems.

As transport environments become increasingly digital, the demand for clear passenger information, wayfinding, onboard advertising and system status displays continues to grow. At the same time, available installation space is often limited. CDS’s range of stretched and ultra-wide display solutions for transportation applications, offers system designers a practical alternative where conventional 16:9 displays are too large, awkward or inefficient.

“Transportation applications often have very specific mechanical and environmental requirements, and that is exactly where stretched displays can provide real design advantages,” said CDS. “Rather than trying to fit a conventional display into an unsuitable space, an ultra-wide format can allow engineers to make far better use of the available area while still delivering clear and engaging information.”

Stretched LCD displays provide a way to deliver more information within long, narrow spaces, making them particularly suitable for rail interiors, buses and coaches, airports, stations, specialist vehicles and embedded transport systems.

CDS can supply stretched displays as complete monitors, LCD panels or integration kits, giving OEMs, system integrators and transport equipment manufacturers greater flexibility when developing their own enclosures and systems.

Potential applications for CDS stretched displays include passenger information systems, rail and train interiors, bus and coach information displays, airport and aviation systems, platform and station signage, onboard digital advertising, and much more. The displays are high-brightness and sunlight-readable, designed to maintain improved visibility in demanding conditions.

For more challenging environments, additional protection can also be considered, including IP-rated housings and other ruggedised display configurations depending on the application requirements.
