The Netherlands-based provider of testing and qualification technology for compilers and libraries, Solid Sands, has acquired Plum Hall, another developer of technology and test suites for C and C++ compilers and libraries. The acquisition will enable Solid Sands to expand its customer base and market share, and respond quickly to the rapidly evolving landscape of programming-language standards.
“We welcome the Plum Hall community of customers and partners to Solid Sands. By adding the renowned and upgraded Plum Hall suites to our product portfolio, we can now deliver broader test coverage and improved qualification capabilities, which are always a must for software developers”, said Marianne Damstra, CEO of Solid Sands.
The Plum Hall suites test against standards from C and C++-11, through C++-14, C++-17, C++20, C++23 and the upcoming C++26, whereas the library suite of Solid Sands’s SuperTest covers C90, C99, C11, C18, C++03, C++11, C++14, C++17 and C++20.
Damstra added: “Customers can expect continued support for the Plum Hall suite from Solid Sands’s highly experienced engineering team.”
The test suites change, with tests being regularly added, disabled or modified as standards evolve, making it a fast changing landscape with increasing demands.
“This surge in new specifications is driving a sharp increase in required test cases, making it increasingly challenging for compiler developers to keep pace,” says Sjoerd van der Zwaan, CPO of Solid Sands. “With this acquisition, Solid Sands is now able to meet that demand whilst also unlocking important technology synergies, enabling accelerated development of our own test suites.”
