Inelco Hunter, distributor for ProTek Devices, has announced the PSM712 circuit protection device. The PSM712 is an asymmetrical TVS array designed specifically for RS-485 applications. The TVS array provides circuit protection against ESD, tertiary lightning and electrical switching transients.
It is compatible with IEC standards 61000-4-2 (ESD): air 15kV, contact 8kV; with 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A, 5/50ns; and with 61000-4-5 (surge): 24A, 8/20 microseconds – level 2 (line-ground) & level 3 (line-line). The PSM712 is provided in a moulded JEDEC SOT-23 package with an approximate weight of just eight milligrams. The PSM712 has a peak pulse power of 600 Watts for an 8/20 microseconds waveshape.
The PSM712 is RoHS and REACH Compliant and is AEC-Q101 Qualified compatible with IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD): ±8kV Contact, ±15kV Air. It is also compatible with IEC61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A, 5/50ns and IEC 61000-4-5 (Surge): 1.5A, 8/20μs. It features 80 Watts Peak Pulse Power per Line(tp = 8/20μs). It has a low clamping voltage, low leakage current and low capacitance. The maximum Clamping Voltage is 19V. The Stand-off voltage is 12V max. with a minimum breakdown voltage of 13.3V.
The approximate weight is 8 milligrams. It is lead-free Pure-Tin Plating (Annealed). The Solder Reflow Temperature is: Pure-Tin – Sn, 100: 260-270°C. The Flammability Rating is UL 94V-0. The devices are supplied on an 8mm Tape and Reel meeting EIA Standard 481. The operating temperature is 55°C to 150°.
The potential applications are vast, and will include RS-485 Transceivers. Network Interfaces, Wireless Systems and Portable Electronics – in fact any RS-485 electronic application where there is a risk of electrostatic discharge, tertiary lightning or electrical switching transients.
