A new line of Ethernet-APL compatible switches from Omnitron are suitable for industrial process automation

Products

Network access products provider, Omnitron Systems, has just released its new 2-Wire Ethernet-APL compatible 10BASE-T1L family of switches and media converters.

Ethernet-APL is a network standard developed specifically for industrial process automation to extend Ethernet data and safely deliver power over long distances in hazardous and non-hazardous environments, all over a single 2-wire cable.

“Ethernet-APL is transforming industrial automation and IIoT by replacing fieldbuses with a faster, lighter, and more efficient single-pair cabling system that delivers both power and data (PoDL) up to 1,000 meters,” said Sankar Ramachandran, VP of Engineering and Product Development at Omnitron Systems. “Our new family of Ethernet-APL interoperable products enables users to integrate SPE into their existing Process Automation Network infrastructure, delivering flexibility, performance, and cost savings for existing and new industrial process automation applications.”

RuggedNet GLAPS/Si – the new Industrial Ethernet-APL compatible switches can connect up to four Ethernet-APL field-edge devices and seamlessly integrate Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) networks. They extend the reach of industrial networks connecting spur and trunk devices in process automation applications.

OmniConverter GLAPS/Sx – these new compact Ethernet-APL compatible switches also include two Ethernet ports and four 2-Wire power sourcing ports for connecting Ethernet-APL devices, but are designed to be installed as a rack-mount or wall-mounted device.

OmniConverter 10T/APS – a compact Ethernet-APL compatible media converter that converts Ethernet copper (RJ-45) to 2-wire Ethernet-APL and are ideal for point-to-point IT and OT bridging applications.

The switches and media converters are available in multiple 2-wire models, enabling Class A or Class C spur connections of up to 200 meters and Class 3 or Class 4 trunk connections up to 1000 meters to Ethernet-APL field switches or end devices.

Users can choose between RJ-45 or SFP standard four-pair Ethernet uplink 10/100/1000Mbps ports. They can also choose between 3-pin terminal or IEC 63171-2 10Mbps (10BASE-T1L) single pair Ethernet ports.  The 10BASE-T1L ports provide up to 92 watts of power to edge/field devices, simplifying installations in remote areas without local power, all on a single-pair cable.

RuggedNet switches are IP40 rated, feature an integrated DIN-rail mount, and include redundant DC power inputs.  They operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 75°C.

OmniConverter switches are IP20 rated and are “tabletop” standalone units with integrated wall-mounting brackets.  They can be also DIN-rail mounted using the optional DIN-rail mounting kit and are powered with a single DC power input.  They are available in 3 temperature ranges: 0 to 50°C (commercial), -40 to 60°C (wide), and -40 to 75°C (extended).
