STMicroelectronics (ST) was awarded a position on this year’s “A” List for water and “A-” List for climate change by CDP, the non-profit global environmental disclosure platform.

The global semiconductor firm, serving customers across the spectrum of electronics, has been identified as a worldwide leader in corporate sustainability.

Among the 2,025 companies that were evaluated worldwide, the Water “A” List recognizes the top 10% of companies participating in the CDP’s water program, for their actions in the last reporting year to manage water more sustainably. ST is one of only three semiconductor manufacturers worldwide to be recognized. The Company’s “A-” score for climate change is also among the 22% highest scoring companies. CDP assigns the ST results to its Leadership level, underlying that the Company has implemented a range of actions to manage climate change within its own operations and extending to its supply-chain ecosystem.

“The semiconductor manufacturing process requires large quantities of water with a very high level of purity. Tackling the challenges of water scarcity and wastewater treatment has been a fundamental part of our strategy since 1994. Over the course of 20 years, our overall water footprint has been reduced by more than 70% through continuous improvement programs undertaken at all our manufacturing sites and, in responding to climate change, our carbon footprint per wafer has been divided by 4,” said Carlo Bozotti, President and CEO, STMicroelectronics.
