On 01/18/2018, 36 specialists from a total of 19 research institutions and industrial companies met at Manz in Reutlingen under the project management of TerraE Holding to officially launch the Fab4Lib research project to develop large-scale mass production for lithium-ion cells. The goal of the project is to explore innovative solutions along the lithium-ion technology value chain and validate these through demonstration projects.
By the end of the project, participants will have developed a competitive production unit with a production capacity of approximately 6 GWh p.a. This unit can be multiplied in the future wherever and whatever extra capacity is required.
Topics like autonomous energy infrastructure, cell design, innovative production processes and materials, Industry 4.0, or recycling strategies will be the focus of eleven work packages. Each package will be headed by one partner and handled in teams. The project will be funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research under grant number 03XP0142.
This will help to lay the groundwork for establishing large-scale mass production of lithium ion cells in Europe.
