Some 52% of British workers would invest in technology for their pets whilst they are at work. Some 68% of pet owners don’t want their four-legged friends to be lonely, with Londoners investing the most.
So says a survey of 1,007 UK adults carried out by gadgets and technology e-tailer, LaptopsDirect.co.uk. British pets are now being entertained and fed from home while their owners are at work using the latest smart technology.
Of those who purchase gadgets for their pets, 43% check on their furry friends several times a day. The survey also found that 37% of pet owners have purchased smart technology such as pet monitors to check in on their companion when left unoccupied while they are at work. A third (33%) of British pets are served meals via automatic pet feeders throughout the working day. Almost 1 in 8 (11%) furry friends have interactive technology such as games and gadgets specifically designed for pets to keep them entertained whilst their owners are occupied during the working hours.
When questioned on the reasons why British pet owners purchase or make use of technology for their pets, 68% said it was to stop their pets feeling lonely when left alone at home. Some s59% of pet lovers said technology allows them to interact and keep an eye on their pets when they are busy during a hectic working day.
“Given how quickly an integral part of day-to-day life technology and gadgets have become, it was only a matter of time before pets started getting in on the action too, especially during the hours that their owners are at work. Technology can never replace time spent with pets but it’s wonderful to see pet owners embracing technology to monitor and entertain their pets when they can’t be there in person,” said Mark Kelly, marketing manager at LaptopsDirect.co.uk.
“Pet technology has come a long way and now offers much more than chipping your four-legged friend in case they go missing. We have seen some really innovative pieces of technology enter the market which allows pet owners to interact when with their animals remotely. As pets are part of the family, it’s no surprise Britons are happy to invest in technology to keep them happy if alone for long periods of time,” he added.
London pet owners were found to invest the most (55%) in technology for their pets, closely followed by Birmingham (52%).
