Euroquartz to Show High Reliability Frequency Control Products at DSEI 2013 Exhibition

News

Frequency control specialist, Euroquartz is showing its wide range of high reliability crystal and oscillator products at the Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2013 exhibition, ExCeL, London, 10 to 13 September 2013.

Besides being well-known as a manufacturer and supplier of commercial and industrial frequency control products, Euroquartz also supplies markets where high reliability components are essential.  These include crystals and oscillators for electronic systems used in satellites, civil and military aircraft and a broad range of ‘defence related’ equipment as well applications as diverse as train control systems and medical electronics.

The company’s well established EQXO-2000BM range of oscillators offers customers the security of full MIL screening when required where their ability to operate at high temperatures indefinitely has ensured the parts have been a popular choice for aerospace, upper atmosphere and space applications. Housed in 8-pin dual-in-line (DIL) packages, the EQXO-2000BM devices offer frequencies from 30kHz to 70MHz with frequency stability of ±100ppm or ±50ppm over the full military temperature range from -55 to +125°C.

EQXO-2000BM devices feature a custom designed, all-ceramic oscillator substrate and ruggedised three-point crystal mounting system within a hermetically sealed metal package ensuring high reliability. The design specification ensures that these oscillators provide an accurate and reliable source of clock signals regardless of the severity of the environment in which they operate.

For equipment used in space or the upper atmosphere, the EQXO-2000BM series oscillators can be produced in radiation tolerant versions. Designated EQXO-2000BMH, these parts are designed to withstand ionising radiation enabling the oscillators to resist electrical failures for a total radiation dose of 40krad (SI).

Specifications include calibration tolerance of ±10 to ±25ppm at 25°C, 5.0V DC ±10% supply voltage, CMOS output, 50pF/10 TTL loads, ageing of ±3ppm maximum in first year and output wave symmetry of 45/55%.

Full screening of components in accordance with MIL-O-55310C, Class B is available to special order.

The company also offers a range of high-shock survivability oscillators for applications subjected to high ‘g’ forces such as Statek’s latest crystal oscillator that is designed for high temperature, high-shock applications.

Offering frequency output from 460kHz to 50MHz, the Statek HGXOHT is capable of operation up to 225°C and can survive extremely high shocks – up to 100,000g – as found in many avionics and military applications.

The design comprises a hermetically-sealed high-shock crystal and a CMOS-compatible IC housed in a 5 x 7.5mm surface-mount ceramic package. Additional features include excellent stability over temperature, fast start-up, CMOS and TTL compatible, optional enable/disable and low EMI emission.

Specifications include 3.3 or 5.0V supply voltage, standard calibration tolerance of ±50ppm (or tighter if required), output load (CMOS) of 15pF, start-up time of 5ms maximum, rise/fall time of 10ns maximum, duty cycle of 40% minimum/60% maximum, vibration survival of 20g

(10 to 2000Hz swept sine), shock survival up to 100,000g (0.5ms, ½sine) and operating temperature range from -55 to +225°C.

Euroquartz also offers a surface mount temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) from Greenray Industries, Inc. that offers temperature stabilities more usually associated with oven controlled temperature compensated (OCXO) devices – as low as ±7 x 108 over an operating temperature range as wide as -50 to +95°C. Equally impressive, the T1220 features current consumption of less than 30mA.

The Greenray T1220 has been designed for applications that require tight stability, low input power (virtually no heat dissipation) and no warm up time. It is housed in a compact, industry-standard surface-mount package measuring just 20.3 x 12.7 x 8.4mm.

Available in frequencies from 10 to 50MHz and with either a 3.5 or 5V supply, the new T1220’s rugged package and excellent g-sensitivity make it ideal for portable as well as airborne applications in demanding environments.

For several years Euroquartz has designed and produced custom electronic filters used in aerospace and communications industries. The company offers several types of custom filter: narrow band pass crystal filters and intermediate band pass crystal filters up to 100MHz, linear phase filters and other specialist filters.

Euroquartz is committed to providing tight stability components that meet or exceed customer requirements. Low phase noise in oscillators is a priority and components are available in a variety of package options including SMD. While offering outstanding vibration, shock and acceleration sensitivity performance, ruggedised components also provide competitive stability and phase noise characteristics. In fact, the stability performance of several Euroquartz TCXOs matches that of OCXOs.

Additional high reliability products include swept quartz crystals with high radiation tolerance and RF duplexers for repeaters and full-duplex radio systems.

Euroquartz, exhibiting on stand N4-282, has a four page full colour brochure providing details of the company’s high reliability frequency control components.
