Easy-to-use wireless module available from RS Components simplifies Internet connectivity


TI’s SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3000 processor helps expand the ‘Internet of Things’ with easy-to-implement Wi-Fi technology

RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, is continuing to expand its semiconductor offering and is now stocking the SimpleLink WIFi CC3000 product family from Texas Instruments (TI).

The TI CC3000 module is a self-contained 802.11 wireless network processor that simplifies and accelerates the implementation of Internet connectivity. TI’s SimpleLink Wi-Fi solution minimises the software requirements of the host microcontroller (MCU) and is thus the ideal solution for embedded applications using any low-cost and low-power MCU with a compact memory footprint.

The self-contained CC3000 module is designed to reduce development time and manufacturing costs, enabling easy addition to the PCB with minimal RF expertise, and providing RF compliance across the US, Canada and Europe (FCC, IC and ETSI).  The module’s small form factor of 16.3mm x 13.5mm x 2mm saves board space, and is ideally suited for application in home automation, home security, connected appliances, smart energy and M2M communication. Best-in-class radio performance ensures reliable coverage throughout the range of the application area.

Also available from RS, the CC3000 Evaluation Module (EM) board is provided to aid evaluation and development. The EM board contains the CC3000 module, and standard RF1 and RF2 headers to connect to many TI platforms including MSP430, Stellaris, and C5000.

In addition, this complete platform solution includes software drivers, sample applications, API guide, user documentation and a world-class support community.
