New and 'unique' Ethernet extenders from Amplicon
A new range of Ethernet extenders from Amplicon use DSL technology to extend communications links up to 10km over a single pair of copper wires. The units can operate transparently as part of an existing network with no drivers to install or complex setup procedures. All ‘IP' traffic that could be sent across a standard patch cable can be sent across an Ethernet Extender link.
David Evans, Product Development Manager at Amplicon commented: "There is a huge potential for these products in both industrial and IT based applications. The difficulty lies in educating the market because the ‘you appeal' is specific to each and every customer. Our Ethernet Extender products have been used in submarines, nuclear plants, on trains, in observatories and even in Graceland - Elvis Presley's estate."
The potential to save money using Ethernet Extenders becomes very apparent when they are used instead of a fibre-optic link or a wireless bridge. An old pair of telephone wires or some defunct PTZ cabling from a security camera can suddenly become a very precious commodity on a site that requires long-range Ethernet connections.
There are four major products in Amplicon's new range:
Model 2172 Multiple line-rates and very cost-effective solution for general applications
Model 2172R Rugged extender with wide operating temperature and conformal coating
Model 2157 Long reach Ethernet Extender - provides links up to 10km
Model 1173 Ethernet Extender optimised for connections to remote IP cameras
Ethernet Extenders can be used to connect two existing LANs or to connect two isolated Ethernet devices together - one of which is typically a PC running application software. Examples include Ethernet based card readers in access control systems, remote IP cameras in CCTV applications, PLCs in factories, Radiation dose meters in nuclear plants and many more.
