TDK Common mode filter for Flexray joins high-performance CAN-Bus devices

TDK Corporation has extended its range of common-mode filters for automotive networking applications by introducing the ACT45R optimised for FlexRay networks. The new filter joins the ACT45B/S filters for CAN infrastructures, sharing TDK's proprietary coil-core technology and enhanced coil-winding process to maximise common-mode impedance while appearing almost invisible to network traffic.

The ACT45x series achieve common-mode impedance up to 2kO/10kHz, which is three-times higher than alternative devices. By also achieving an inductive-coupling coefficient of 0.99, these devices maximise signal integrity as well as noise immunity.

By specifying ACT45x filters for operation up to 150°C, TDK also ensures greater reliability at the industry-standard 125°C maximum for CAN and FlexRay applications. This is achieved through an enhanced structure capable of resisting thermal stresses at PCB interconnections, as well as the use of shock-resistant conductive adhesive and stress-absorbing internal construction.

The I-shaped core of the ACT45x enables a compact footprint of 4.5mm x 3.2mm x 2.8mm. This matches equivalent industry-standard devices to deliver a high-reliability, high-performance second source for developers of automotive subsystems such as safety equipment, lighting, security systems and telematics.
