Microchip Introduces First 12-bit DAC With Integrated EEPROM in 6-pin SOT-23 Package

Microchip has introduced the MCP4725 Digital-to-Analogue Converter (DAC) - the industry's first DAC to combine 12-bit resolution, and an integrated EEPROM in a miniature, 6-pin SOT-23 package. The low-power, single-channel DAC has a buffered voltage output and is ideal for space-constrained and battery-powered applications found in a variety of markets.

Utilising Microchip's expertise in both non-volatile memory and mixed-signal technology, the non-volatile EEPROM enables MCP4725 DAC settings to be recalled at power up, without microcontroller intervention, providing flexibility for system designers and helping to reduce cost, power consumption and design footprint.

For microcontroller connectivity, the device features an I2C interface with a single address selection pin. The new device has a shutdown current of just 0.06 uA, which also helps to extend battery life. In addition, its precision output amplifier provides a rail-to-rail analogue output, fully utilising the entire supply voltage range.

The MCP4725 Evaluation Board (Part number MCP4725EV) is available now to help designers quickly evaluate the operation of the MCP4725 DAC. The new board works with Microchip's PICkit Serial Analyzer, or independently alongside the customer's application.
